..would you live as a bloke on their own?
I live in Holland at the moment, getting divorced. I don't want to stay here tbh. The weather , people , food , cost of living all suck
Was gonna go back to the UK bit can live and work anywhere in Europe. (Eu).
Not travelled the continent much so I'm a bit in the dark where would be a good place.
Seems to be a healthy amount of travel/ overseas experience here.
Any ideas ?

I been here 15 years now and call it home. I’ve already lived close in to Manhattan or Brooklyn and bought eventually, but it’s damned expensive in Manhattan and immediate surroundings (much like London ) and some of the suburbs in Westchester and Long Island and the property tax is a killer there too. If you’re willing to take on a commute you’ll find it a lot cheaper out in NJ. There used to be some amazing deals if you could stretch to eastern west NJ and into Pennsylvania.

Hamburg, cracking bars and clubs.
I went on a stag weekend to Hamburg and aside from the football stadium i thought it was a dump.
Looked like Thamesmead and was full of stag dos and weirdos.

For me I would look to move to southern Germany. Climate is usually really good in the summer and they still have a proper winter there too. People are friendly and I love the place. Great access to the rest of Europe from there too. Austria/Italy/Slovenia all easy driving distance.
Nice people and the Germans are quite like us as a race of people.

Agreed but if we’re talking cities then Brussels is a great city and good value for money. The Ixelles arrondissment is very nice. Good food, good beer a lot of ex pats. As a hub bxls is 2 hrs from London . 1hr 20 mins from Paris or Amsterdam by TGV

FC, are you still out there?
We're very fortunate in that our house would give us a decent amount to spend over there and is mortgage free but I've been amazed at what we could get for our money. We'd have plenty of room for family to come and stay for decent periods of time should we decide to make the move.

Agree about what kind of house you can get for your money, I bought a 2 bed town home with finished basement for $71000 in 1992

This is an interesting thread as we as a family are currently considering a possible relocation to the States. Somewhere within commuter distance to Manhattan. I've been stunned to find that what we could get for our money out there is incredible housing wise. If we sold our place back here and bought out there they are like palaces.
Im sure there are a few New York based hammers on here and not just NYChammer so do any of the expats on here recommend or regret going stateside?

I've been back in the UK for 10 years now so my 'experience' isn't quite up to date but still have British friends out there who love it.
I'd go back in a heartbeat if my circumstances changed, not to say I won't at some point in the future.

I lived in Greece for 16 years, would recommend it, ok winter climate, long, hot sunny days in the summer, Greeks are ok, especially if learn some of the lingo.
Corfu probably would be best as they have more flights back to the UK should needs arise, cracking main town as well.

Some interesting suggestions thank you! will def look into some of these, maybe do a visit to some. has to be better than the netherlands, after 3 years it really is shit. on paper it shouldnt be, but it is,
quite the conundrum.
As mentioned work isnt a consideration at all, I can do my job from anywhere as long as has basic speed internet, and electricity.

Somewhere I definitely would recommend is Toulouse.
Lovely city, nice vibe, the people are friendly and welcoming, unlike northern France or Belgium where they like to disappear up their own arses.

Pula means dick in Romanian... I found out when I was in Romania and said I love Pula.
I would go for Tuscany or Umbria in Italy. Umbria is sort of a cheap Tuscany without tourists, and I find that Italians are usually very helpful as opposed to France.
Romania has an easy language and really cheap, great woman and a lot of exciting nature.
